Flowers’ Language and The Meaning Behind—

According to the book Language of Flowers by Kate Greenaway, there are more than a hundreds of flower classifications with their each meaning. Every single name from A-Z of the flower has something to tell from the way we see it, we can get some of new interpretations. As we know, Rose might be just red but in fact she has a sisters; Red Rose, White Rose, Yellow Rose, Deep Red Rose, also Burgundy Rose.
Some of the flowers has a deep meaning, as here we are going to talk about the flowers based on the movie Enola Holmes (still my favourite) which are;
Chrysanthemum, Carnation, Lily of The Valley, Poppy, Red Tulip, Yellow Rose, White Rose, Red Rose.
Shall we begin?—
Chrysanthemum
Or we can called it Mother of chrysanths, is a flowering plants came from the family of Asteraceae. It has two different type of single structure or pompom. Mostly grows in East Asia or Northeastern Europe.
The meaning of Chrysanthemum from its origin Chinese Chrysanthemum is Cheerfulness under adversity, and if it is Red means I Love, if it is White means Thruth, Yellow means Slighted Love and White means Loyalty.
Meanwhile in general, Chrysanthemum are believed to represent happiness, love, longevity and joy.
This flower is all about pure love and trust which brings out the happiness for people and nature. But in some country of Europe (e.g., Belgium, Italy, Spain, Poland), it symbolize death and used only for funerals or graves.
Despite from the variant meanin, Chrysanthemum is also useful for our health such as high blood pressure, diabetes, fever and cold. As a drink, Chrysanthemum is popular for summertime tea in Southern China.
Carnation
Or we can call it as a Clove Pink, came from a species of Dianthus origin from Medditerranean. The meaning of this flower is Sadness in love which developed into a Deep in love.
Further, people are believe that Carnation symbolize fascination.
In Greek Myth, Carnation is known as Flower of God, It also have a meaning ‘coronation’, and that makes this flower often use for ceremonial crowns in Greek.
Some of people believe Carnation is a symbol of Mother’s undying love because it came down to the Earth from Virgin Mary’s tears, and they are use this flower on Mother’s Day and National Teacher’s day for some countries.
The colors of Carnation become wide, white, red, purple, pink and so many others. For all that reasons, Carnations.com says a carnations are the second most popular commercially grown flower in the world after Roses.
Also, Carnation have a lot of benefits for our health such as Carnation tea can be use for diarrhea. Or its essential oil can be use for toothace, hair loss treatments, and for ladies can be use to minimise the face wrinkles.
Lily of The Valley
The meaning of this flower is Return of Happiness, or simply just Happiness. Its Scientific name is Convallaria Majalis from family order, Asparagaceae. Mostly grown at the cold temperature Northern Hemisphere in Asia and Europe. Not like any others, we cannot use Lily of The Valley for any comsumption purpose because it was poisonous, this flower contains toxic compounds called cardiac glycosides, which can cause symptoms such as dizziness, vomiting, rashes, and diarrhea. Those pretty little bells can lead to death if we are not careful. Even we can use it for any consumption purpose, Lily is one of the most popular ingredient for making a perfume and fragrance for any skin products such as lotion and shower bath.
Despite the gloomy facts, Lily of The Valley is one of the most favorite flower from Royal Brides. Queen Victoria and Kate Middleton are use this flower on their wedding bouquets because they believe it will bring a good luck in love.
This flower also symbolize the flower of May, according to the scientific name Majalis (belong to May). So if you are born in May, then Lily of The Valley is your birth flower.
Another fact, it became Finland's national flower in 1967 and was the floral emblem of Yugoslavia. France also celebrates La Fête du Muguet (Lily of the Valley Day) on May 1.
Poppy
Poppy in Red means Consolation, Poppy in Scarlet means Fantastic extravagance, and Poppy in White means My bane My antidote.
A poppy is a flowering plant in the subfamily Papaveroideae of the family Papaveraceae. It probably native to the Mediterranean, but they can be grown in subtropical and tropical regions such as wild eastern and Southern Asia, and South Eastern Europe.
This flower has a hisctorical background for The Great Britain which symbolize a Remembrance of the First World War. It is strongly linked with Armistice Day (11 November). The reason of why people are used Poppies is because to remember those who have given their lives in battle, because they are the only flowers which grew on the battlefields after World War 1 end.
This is described in the famous WW1 poem In Flanders Fields.
Ever since then, it become the symbol of remembering those who gave their lives in WW1 to sacrified for the country.
Meanwhile, Poppies are poisonous plants. One of its species; Papaver somniferum, is the source of the narcotic contains powerful medicinal component such as morphine, can be use for analgesic in some cases. Beautiful but also dangerous.
Red Tulip
Red Tulip or Tulipa, has a meaning of Declaration of Love. Such a wonderful and strong meaning.
Country of origin is from Iran, with higher classification, Lilioideae.
In general, the color red in flowers is usually associated with love so it also follows that the Red Tulip means an eternal love, perfect love, and undying love.
According to Kiersten Schulte, “Red tulips are the hue of choice to express that you are deeply in love. The color red evokes passion and romance”.
She also said that if a man wants her woman to be with them that long and more, red tulips are a great choice to give.
And some of the fact based on Victorian Interpretation, Red Tulip is a Declaration of love and the wait for an honest answer from the person you love. It also means believe me.
Usually, the blooming season of Red Tulip are between April to June where early bloomers are those that blossomed in April and late bloomers in June.
Red tulips or tulips in general still be able to grow after it is cut. In can grow up to one inch or even more.
Believe it or not, In fengshui, having a red tulip in your home is said to bring wealth together with love. It’s also said that it helps to bring a person rise to fame and recognition. As for wedding traditions, using red tulips signifies the love of the newly wed for each other.
Those specialities of Red Tulip made it become one of the most popular flower in the world and used in so many occasions. Who doesn’t like Tulip anyway?
Rose
Last but not least, here we come to our blush reddish favorite flower. But not only red,
It came with so many colors and also the meaning of each color are special.
Begin with Rose itself, in general meaning is Love with scientific name; Rosa from family Rosaceae.
Let’s begin with the colors which showed up in the movie Enola Holmes, there are Yellow, White and Red Rose.
Start from Yellow Rose, the meaning is Decrease of love and Jealousy. Or— Wisdom and Joy.
White Rose means Worthiness or I am worthy of you and Purity.
And the Red Rose means True Love. Or it can be Bashful Shame if the color is Deep Red.
Based on the meaning of the colors itself, mostly Roses always comes up with the idea of Love. True love, pure also strong feeling of love. Whether it was a feeling of jealousy or caring and happiness which the love has brings us into.
Also, Roses are One of the Oldest Flower.
Archaeologists have discovered this flower fossils back from 35 million years ago, even more shocking, the oldest living Rose is 1,000 years old.
As the ancient Greeks and Romans associated Roses with Aphrodite and Venus, goddess of love.
Nowadays and since a long time ago, Roses have a lot of benefits for our health and beauty.
It can be used by the rose oil, rose water or even to make tea. This flower also good for our skin because contains of antioxidant and antibacterial compounds.
Also it can relieves stress and depression by using it when we make a hot bath and sprinkle some rose petals in the hot water.
These things of benefits and the meaning behind, makes Roses always be pretty time by time.
The conclusion is, these flowers represent Enola Holmes feelings such as her sadness for losing her mom, also the biggest pure love she has for her mother.
And her happiness that finally she knew her truly self, what’s her purpose of life and what she wanna be in the future.
Its all connected to each other. There are always hidden meaning in everything, Literally, everything in this universe.
What we have to do is, be patient with the process of finding the meaning.
We learned from Enola Holmes that anything will find its ways and try anything best that we can to decide about what we have to do.
